Lights, Camera, Action!
GCSE Film Studies | WJEC/Eduqas
2-Year Course | Minimum age 13
Alternate Thursdays, 9:30am–12:30pm | 3-hour lessons
A fantastic, fun and highly engaging GCSE that students really enjoy! Explore the world of film while developing the skills to analyse, understand and create films.
Best of all, students make their own short film extract, which contributes 30% of their final GCSE grade – meaning less of the assessment depends on the written exams! The teacher marks and submits the coursework to Tutors & Exams.
This GCSE is not usually available to Home Educators, making this a particularly valuable opportunity. These lessons have been running successfully for many years.
Exams must be taken at a Tutors & Exams (T&E) branch. Parents are responsible for booking the exams with Tutors & Exams.
A Level Film Studies – Explore Film, Create & Inspire!
Eduqas | Wednesdays, 11:30am–1:30pm
Explore film at a deeper level with an experienced Film Studies teacher who has worked with home educated young people for over 20 years.
Students will investigate how films create meaning, explore film theory and critical debates, and consider how cinema reflects and influences society. The course covers a fascinating range of cinema, from Hollywood and British film to European, world, documentary, silent and experimental cinema.
Students also have the opportunity to create their own work, either a 4–5 minute short film or screenplay, supported by an evaluative analysis.
Assessment: Two exams plus coursework worth 30% of the final A Level.
